Judo 43: Empowering our Youth to Stand Tall Against Bullying

At The Tradies, we’re passionate about backing community groups that make a difference. That’s why we’re proud to support Judo 43—a not-for-profit organisation using the power of Judo to help our young people build confidence, resilience, and friendships while standing strong against bullying.

Alison Percival, our CEO, stepped onto the mats at Judo 43’s and Grappling Bros dojo, giving her the opportunity to experience firsthand the profound impact of mentorship and leadership in shaping confident, resilient young people. On the day, the dojo hosted experienced sensei’s, including World, Continental and National Champions, whose guidance and example instil discipline, perseverance, and self-belief in the students.

Judo: The Gentle Way to Confidence and Strength

Judo, which translates to “the gentle way,” is built on respect, discipline, and self-improvement. Judo relies on non-violent techniques, using an opponent’s strength against them rather than striking. As the gentlest Martial Art and Olympic sport, it’s an incredible tool to help our youth develop confidence and self-assurance without aggression.

Bullying can leave lasting effects on a child’s education, social life, and personal development. That’s why Judo 43 is committed to providing our youth with a safe space to learn essential life skills. By fostering inner strength and resilience, Judo helps our youth carry themselves with confidence, reducing their risk of being targeted by bullies.

The Reality of Bullying in Australia

The statistics from the National Centre Against Bullying paint a clear picture of the challenges our youth face today:

  • 27% of students are bullied every few weeks or more often.

  • 1 in 7 young people experience cyberbullying.

  • 13.5% of students report having lies spread about them at school.

Bullying can take many forms, from physical intimidation to social exclusion, humiliation, and even online harassment. It can deeply impact a child’s mental and emotional well-being, making it crucial to equip them with the tools to navigate these challenges.

Building a Stronger Youth, One Throw at a Time

For years, Judo 43 along with Grappling Bros has been shaping strong, confident young people, and the results speak for themselves. Those who step onto the mats stay committed, not only honing their Judo skills but also forging lasting friendships and developing resilience that extends beyond the dojo. In a world where young people face increasing pressures and challenges, Judo 43 provides a guiding force, offering them the tools to grow, thrive, and stand tall.

At The Tradies, we’re incredibly proud to support Judo 43 and the impact they’re making in our community. If you’d like to learn more or find out how you can be part of their mission, we encourage you to reach out to Judo 43 and Grappling Bros directly.

Together, through sport, respect, and community, we can help create a safer and more confident future for our youth.
