Make March Purple: A Family-Friendly Epilepsy Community Event

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that affects people of all ages, and for many children and families it’s something they navigate every day. Despite being more common than many people realise, epilepsy is often misunderstood. Raising awareness, encouraging open conversation and creating inclusive community spaces can make a real difference for those living with the condition.

At The Tradies, supporting our community is at the heart of what we do. We’re proud to stand alongside organisations like Epilepsy ACT and play an active role in helping raise awareness, reduce stigma and support children, families and carers in our local community.

Each year, we proudly support Make March Purple, a national epilepsy awareness campaign that encourages communities to come together, wear purple and show their support for people living with epilepsy. Throughout the month of March, our staff wear purple T-shirts as a visible sign of support — helping to spark conversations and raise awareness within our venue and beyond.

Make March Purple Community Event

As part of our Make March Purple activities, we’re hosting a family-friendly community event designed to bring people together in a relaxed, inclusive and welcoming environment.

Date: Saturday 29 March
Time: 11:00am – 2:00pm
Location: Poppyfield Commons, The Tradies Dickson [the old Dickson Garden Centre Site]

The event is open to families and the wider community and will feature a range of fun activities for children to enjoy.

Activities & Kids’ Fun

Children and families can enjoy a variety of free, hands-on activities throughout the day, including:

  • Face painting

  • Balloon twisting with Giggly Wiggly Balloons

  • Giant games

  • Fairy floss and slushies

  • Get mucked” step outside your comfort zone & muck up for epilepsy

These activities are designed to create a fun, inclusive space where kids can play, connect and enjoy time together while families learn more about epilepsy awareness.

Food for Kids

We’ll also have kid-friendly food available on the day, including:

  • Popcorn

  • Pizza

Perfect for a relaxed lunch while enjoying the activities and community atmosphere.

A Special Book Reading

A highlight of the event will be a special children’s book reading with author Sarah Watts, who brings lived experience of epilepsy through her family. Sarah’s book Marvellous Miles gently explores epilepsy in an age-appropriate way, helping normalise experiences such as seizures, medication routines and doctor visits, while encouraging understanding and conversation among children, parents and carers. The book can be purchased here.

We’re proud to support Epilepsy ACT and the important work they do for children and families across our community. Through events like this, we hope to raise awareness, build understanding and create welcoming spaces where everyone feels they belong.

We’d love to see you there as we come together to support epilepsy awareness this March 💜
