There’s something special happening in Canberra this weekend - and The Tradies is proud to be right behind it.

For the very first time, women’s teams from New South Wales, Queensland, and the South Island of New Zealand will stand side by side - and axe to block - in a groundbreaking Tri-Series Women’s Woodchopping Competition at the Royal Canberra Show.

It’s not just another competition.  It’s a moment in history.

Three Days. Three Teams. Twenty-Four Remarkable Women.

Across three action-packed days, 24 exceptional athletes - eight from each team - will take to the woodchopping arena in a powerful display of strength, precision and teamwork.

They’ll compete across the core disciplines that define this age-old sport:

·         Woodchopping

·         Single sawing

·         Double sawing

·         Chainsawing

From the crack of the first axe to the final cut, spectators can expect an electrifying atmosphere.  This is a sport built on resilience and razor-sharp focus - and these women are ready to show exactly what they’re made of.

A Sport Steeped in Tradition - and Moving Forward

Woodchopping has deep agricultural roots. It’s woven into the fabric of regional shows across Australia and New Zealand. But like all great traditions, it evolves.

The introduction of the Tri-Series Women’s Competition marks a transformative step forward. It celebrates the growing presence of women in a sport long dominated by men and opens the door wider for future generations.

It’s about honouring heritage while embracing change – something we care deeply about at The Tradies.

More Than a Competition – A Community Gathering

The Tri-Series will bring more than just 24 competitors to Canberra. Their partners, families, and supporters are travelling with them, turning this event into a vibrant gathering of athletes and community.

Set against the backdrop of the Royal Canberra Show – a yearly celebration of agriculture, entertainment, and good old-fashioned community spirit – there’s something for everyone. Between events, families can enjoy food stalls, live entertainment, and exhibits that showcase the heart of our region.

It’s a reminder that sport, at its best, brings people together.

When the Action Starts

If you’re heading to the Show, make sure you plan ahead:

·         Friday: Chopping kicks off today at 3:30 pm, with the first Tri-Series race at around 6:00 pm

·         Saturday: Tri-Series action from approximately 12:30 pm

·         Sunday: Back again at approximately 12:30 pm

And trust us - you’ll want to get a seat early.

The Tradies: Proud to Support Strong Women and Strong Communities

At The Dickson Tradies, we believe in backing our community - from grassroots sport to landmark moments like this one.  Supporting the Tri-Series Women’s Woodchopping Competition is about more than sponsorship.  It’s about standing behind resilience, teamwork, and the next chapter of a proud tradition.

This weekend, history will echo with every strike of the axe.

We can’t wait to see you there - cheering loud, celebrating big, and witnessing a new era in woodchopping unfold right here in Canberra.
