Brindabella Hills Leads a Strong Year for Canberra Wine

There’s something special about a wine that tells a story—not just of the vineyard it came from, but of the people and places behind it. That spirit was on full display at this year’s Canberra and Region Wine Show, where local producers once again showed why this region continues to punch well above its weight.

With around 50 exhibitors taking part, the show brought together an impressive cross-section of the region’s wine community—from long-established names to rising talent. Across dozens of classes, the quality and variety on offer made one thing clear: Canberra wine is in great shape.

Brindabella Hills led the way, with their 2025 Riesling sweeping four major trophies: Best Canberra District Riesling, Best Riesling, Best White Wine of Show, and Champion Wine of Show. It’s a stunning result for a wine that’s as balanced and bright as it is deeply rooted in our region. For anyone who’s enjoyed a glass of Brindabella Hills over the years, this recognition won’t come as a surprise—it’s a wine that just feels right.

Judging this year’s show was no small task, but it was clearly a rewarding one. Chair of Judges Shanteh Wale described the entries as “a joy to taste and judge,” singling out the sparkling and Riesling classes as standouts. Of the Rieslings in particular, she said they were “a thrilling bracket of wine” that captured the personality of our region and sparked genuine conversation among the judges—something only great wines can do.

It wasn’t just Brindabella Hills flying the flag. Nick O’Leary Wines earned the title of Most Successful Exhibitor of Show and also took out Wine of Provenance for their White Rocks Riesling. Quarry Hill’s 2024 Shiraz was named Best Red Wine of Show—another local favourite getting the recognition it deserves.

At The Tradies, local wine has always had a place on the table. Over the years, we’ve built strong relationships with producers across the region, and their wines have become a familiar part of the experience for our members and guests. It’s a connection that’s grown naturally—through shared values, community ties, and a deep respect for the work behind every bottle.

So while the awards and scores matter, it’s the stories behind the bottles that stick with you—the hands that made them, the ground they came from, and the pride we all feel when they’re poured. This year’s wine show was a reflection of what makes this region special — talent, passion and a deep sense of community. And that’s something worth sharing.
