Supporting Education and Reconciliation: The Tradies and Emmaus Christian School Celebrate NAIDOC Week
Every year, NAIDOC Week is a special time to recognise and celebrate the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It’s a week that invites all Australians to come together, learn, and deepen our respect for the world's oldest continuous living cultures.
This year, The Dickson Tradies is proud to have partnered with Emmaus Christian School to support their NAIDOC Week celebrations. As part of this partnership, The Tradies donated 28 NAIDOC Week posters spanning from 1997 to 2024. These beautifully designed posters serve as powerful educational resources, aiming to foster learning and encourage conversations about culture, history, and reconciliation - values that sit close to our heart.
In the lead-up to NAIDOC Week, Emmaus Christian School have had these posters on display in a dedicated exhibition space. Early childhood educators from across Canberra have had the chance to view the exhibition during a recent networking event, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. The school community will showcase the exhibition even more widely, weaving it into their NAIDOC Week celebrations.
Initiatives like this are about more than just education - they’re about building real understanding and respect. When students, teachers, and families engage with First Nations cultures in such a meaningful way, it opens the door to deeper conversations and lasting connections. It's these moments that embody the spirit of NAIDOC Week.
Ricky Newham, community ambassador for The Tradies, shared, "Supporting initiatives like this one with Emmaus Christian School reflects what The Tradies is all about - connection, respect, and community. We’re proud to play even a small part in helping young people and educators engage with the stories and traditions that shape our nation."
We’re honoured to stand alongside Emmaus Christian School and the wider community this NAIDOC Week. From all of us here at The Tradies, we wish everyone a week of meaningful reflection, celebration, and connection.
Stay tuned for a follow-up after NAIDOC Week as we share highlights from the exhibition and reflections from the Emmaus Christian School community.
